Whether Here or There, Wisdom is Near

Hi, I'm Jennifer and I'm an addict.

Addicted to learning that is. Fortunately, the addict gene in my bloodline chose to present itself at a young age through books and not gambling or alcohol like family before me.

You would think that as much as I loved learning that I would be a genius but alas! the older I get the more I find how little I know! (More on that later!)

Over the years I've taken many classes and have read oodles of books, yet I find that my IQ has not risen that much, which leads me to the purpose of this blog. I've envied many a genius, but in the end I have found that those possessing 'wisdom' are seemingly most happy and content. Intelligence and beauty may fade but wisdom remains.

I recently read a passage in one of my favorite 'leather-bound' books of all time that really made me think.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
~Proverbs 4:7 KJV

No doubt many words of wisdom can be found in books, especially in those old classic 'leather-bound' ones, but I have been sorely disappointed to find that rote and quotation alone does not make one wise.

And what a horror to find that wisdom did not magically appear with the discovery of my first grey hair! But one wise man told me, through a quote he left behind, to 'never, never, never quit' (Thank you Winston) so I'm determined to seek until I find.

Please join me as I stir up some dust (a-choo!) while digging through the past (old leather bound books!) and gain new ground while trekking 'where no man has gone before' (well, actually most everyone is in cyberspace now..but it sounded good, right?) in my quest to find words from the wise.

Sooo whether here (the present) or there (the past) we are bound to find something that will lead us closer to wisdom than grey hair and a rocking chair.
